Crystal Palace star Andros Townsend has this afternoon moved to defend Ashley Young, after the Eagles’ Twitter account aimed a lighthearted jab at the Manchester United man.
United downed by Palace
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men welcomed Palace to Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils headed into the clash hoping for a bounce-back result, having dropped two points in disappointing fashion at Wolves this day last week.
When all was said and done in Manchester, though, things went from bad to worse for United.
Despite having pulled level courtesy of Daniel James with minutes remaining in the clash, a 93rd-minute Patrick van Aanholt strike eventually saw Palace depart Old Trafford with all 3 points.
90 – Patrick van Aanholt has become only the second ever player to score a 90th minute winner vs Man Utd in the Premier League, after Thierry Henry with Arsenal in January 2007. Van Aanholt is the first to do so in a match at Old Trafford. Incredible. #MUNCRY pic.twitter.com/uITm70IWZV

‘Should be applauding this’
The Eagles, meanwhile, have since used their shock win as an opportunity to poke fun at United.
Taking to Twitter, Palace’s official account posted a clip of Wilfried Zaha turning Ashley Young inside out down the visitors’ right, along with the caption ‘Wilf had him dancing’:

One of Palace’s other attacking stars, though, has taken issue with his side’s Tweet.
Taking to his own Twitter account, Andros Townsend re-posted the clip in question, but with his own caption.
The 28-year-old insisted that rather than ‘making fun’ of Young, the veteran should be ‘applauded’, for managing to, despite Zaha’s best efforts, block the Ivorian’s cross into United’s box:
A 34 y/o ex winger vs one of the leagues best wingers…. he gets destroyed twice yet still manages to block the cross…. we should be applauding this not making fun of it #Respect https://t.co/AD5Nlyt7Mu
