John McGinn has given Aston Villa the lead over Club Brugge in their Champions League opener.
The Villans travelled to Belgium looking for a strong start after a topsy-turvy summer under Unai Emery.
His side are yet to win in the Premier League so far this season, but look on course to pick up three points on the road.
John McGinn was first on the scoresheet after 11 minutes, after picking the ball on the right-side of the box and curling into the far corner.
But the hosts would hit back soon after through Hugo Vetlesen. The winger beat Aaron Wan-Bissaka on the left this time, before darting into the box and finishing.
However, three minutes later, Emiliano Buendia restored Villa’s lead.
After some good work from Nicolas Jackson to release Joao Gomes, the midfielder played the ball into the box, and Buendia finished.
It summed up a frantic first half, in which Villa will be looking to build on after the break.
