A bizarre story surrounding Manchester United has taken centre stage online on Tuesday evening.
Chelsea, Barca & more to depart ESL
The headline news across the football landscape over the last couple of hours has of course centered on the European Super League.
This comes after the initiative, initially backed by twelve of the continent’s leading clubs, has essentially gone up in smoke.
First, amid serious fan protests at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea were followed by Manchester City in announcing their intention to pull out of the ‘closed shop’ competition:

And the English giants, in turn, were quickly backed by their counterparts in Spain, amid claims that both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are too set to turn their backs on the ESL imminently:

The fallout, however, has not ended there.
Whilst Italian giants Juventus are forced to deny claims that chairman Andrea Agnelli has stepped down from his position, a leading figure in England, specifically at Manchester United, has decided to call time on his association with the Red Devils.
The individual in question? Ed Woodward.

The changes at Old Trafford, though, may not end there.
Woodward’s departure has been swiftly followed by suggestions that United’s owners – the Glazers – could now seek out a buyer for the club.
Incredible. Was told the collapse may well see the Glazers cash out. This points in that direction. https://t.co/lUEjOKAyKc

And one of world sport’s most recognisable faces, in turn, has since jokingly thrown his hat into the ring as a potential replacement for the Glazers.
Taking to Twitter a short time ago, UFC veteran Conor McGregor suggested that he is ‘thinking about buying Manchester United’:
Hey guys, Iâm thinking about buying Manchester United!
What do you think?
