Preview for PSG v Barcelona
This is the one everybody has been waiting for. Barcelona haven’t dropped a point all season, Paris Saint-Germain are the reigning European champions, and on Tuesday night the two meet at the Parc des Princes in the standout game of matchday three.
Hansi Flick’s side are unstoppable right now. Saturday’s 5-2 win over Real Betis at La Cartuja made it 11 wins out of 11 in all competitions, and they come to Paris among the leaders in the Champions League standings after thrashing Feyenoord 5-1 and coming from behind to beat Galatasaray 4-1 in Istanbul.
Lamine Yamal has been the star of the show. The 19-year-old already has nine goals and 10 assists in all competitions this season.
PSG have their own perfect record in Europe. They hammered Slovan Bratislava 6-1 on matchday one and then won 4-2 at Manchester City last week, racing into a three-goal lead inside half an hour.
The worry for Luis Enrique is at the back. PSG have conceded in each of their last five matches across all competitions, and that’s a big concern against the most potent attack in Europe’s big five leagues.
“We want to win,” said the PSG boss who will face his former club. “In terms of the competition as a whole, it may not be that important, but it is a special fixture. These are two top clubs with a clear identity and they are both brilliant to watch, so we want to make the most of it. It will be a good sporting contest.
“It will be a tight match because both teams have so much individual quality. Playing at home makes a difference to us; we are much stronger here. We are a machine: that is what I think when i see our players press.”
There’s no shortage of history between these sides, and Luis Enrique has the upper hand on his former club. PSG won the last meeting between the two, and victory on Tuesday would make it three wins in a row against Barcelona for the Champions League holders.

Team News for PSG v Barcelona
The big news for Barcelona is the return of Raphinha. The Brazilian missed the Getafe and Galatasaray games with a thigh problem, but he came off the bench against Betis, and Flick had already made his position clear before the weekend. “If you ask him, he will tell you he will be ready to start. The good news is that he will be available, and De Jong too,” the Barca boss said.
Raphinha has 14 goals this season and is expected to come straight back into the starting XI, with Gabriel Jesus seen limping towards the end of the Betis game.
Flick does have some concerns at the back, though. Gerard Martín (ankle), Jules Koundé (ankle) and Eric García (quad) all picked up knocks against Betis. Koundé is expected to start, but Martín and García are doubts. Andreas Christensen and Roony Bardghji are still out.
For PSG, Nuno Mendes has been ruled out for a few weeks which means either Lucas Digne or Lucas Hernandez will start at left-back. The good news is Maghnes Akliouche trained today after suffering a blow to the ankle at Strasbourg.
Senny Mayulu has returned to training but this game could come too soon.
Expected line-ups for PSG v Barcelona
PSG: Safonov; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Digne; Neves, Vitinha, Ruiz; Doué, Dembélé, Kvaratskhelia
Barcelona: Joan García; Koundé, Cubarsí, Gerard Martín, Cancelo; Rodri, Pedri; Lamine Yamal, Fermín, Gordon; Raphinha
Recent Form & Stats for Paris Saint Germain v Barcelona
- The teams have met 16 times in UEFA competition with six wins each, four draws and 29 goals apiece.
- Paris have lost only one of their last five meetings with Barcelona (W3 D1), triumphing 2-1 in Spain on Matchday 2 last season. Ferran Torres, now of Paris, put the home side ahead only for Mayulu and Gonçalo Ramos to score late in each half and give Paris the points.
- That was also Paris’ third successive away win against Barcelona, with 10 goals scored and three conceded.
- However, Barça have been victorious in two of their last four games at Parc des Princes (D1 L1) including the last, a 3-2 win in the 2023/24 quarter-final first leg in which Raphinha scored twice – although Paris won the return in Spain 4-1 despite another Raphinha strike, Ousmane Dembélé and Vitinha scoring the French side’s first two goals.
- Paris have lost only three of their last 14 games against Spanish clubs (W8 D3), most recently drawing 0-0 at Athletic Club on Matchday 6 last season.
- Barcelona have lost three of their last four games versus French opponents (W1). They have won only four of their last 11 games involving Ligue 1 sides (D2 L5).
Prediction for PSG v Barcelona
Both sides are brilliant going forward but we give PSG the edge defensively, despite their recent record. It should be a fascinating battle in midfield with Rodri and Pedri on one side and Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz and Joao Neves on the other.
