James Maddison marked his first competitive start for Tottenham since May last year with a stunning opening goal as they took the lead against Coventry City.

Maddison has spent long periods on the sideline in recent times owing to well-documented struggles with injury.

Prior to Monday’s visit of his former club, Maddison’s last appearance in a starting XI came on May 1, 2025 in a Europa League tie with Bodo/Glimt.

And just 14 minutes into the contest he delivered a reminder of how important he can be for Spurs, bending into the top-left corner from the edge of the area as Tottenham scored the opening goal in a Premier League game for the first time this season.

A point against Coventry would move Tottenham off the bottom of the table, while their first league win would move them out of the relegation zone.
