Philadelphia Union vs New York City betting tips: Major League Soccer preview, predictions and odds

New York City beat Philadelphia 2-1 in last season's Eastern Conference Final, en route to lifting MLS Cup. However, the Union won 2-0 at Yankee Stadium just three months ago, meaning they've actually won three of their last five encounters. Philly are just the fourth team in MLS history to draw seven times in an eight-match period, and the first to do so far 11 years.

Another draw here is 5/2.

Both teams to score is 7/10.

Talles Magno is 12/1 to break the deadlock and 4/1 to add to his nine goals for NYCFC.

Match preview

MLS' unstoppable force takes on the (sort of) immovable object, as last season's Eastern Conference finalists reconvene in Pennsylvania.

This is the first time since 2011, and sixth time overall, that two teams with 8+ unbeaten streaks have gone head-to-head in Major League Soccer.

Having said that, Philadelphia Union have actually been the league's draw specialists in recent months.

Last time out, Jim Curtin's men were held again, this time 1-1 by FC Cincinnati, despite taking the lead through Alejandro Bedoya.

So, the Union have now drawn seven of their last eight matches, only claiming a victory against Portland Timbers since 9 April.

Nevertheless, having still only lost once in 2022, Philly sit third in the east, just one point below their visitors who lead the way.

As for New York City FC, they are reigning MLS Cup Champions and, as mentioned, are top of the Eastern Conference.

However, everything is not all hunky-dory in the Bronx, with Head Coach Ronny Deila having departed for Standard Liège last month.

Then, on Wednesday night, NYCFC's U.S. Open Cup hopes were ended by Hudson River Derby rivals RBNY, getting hammered 3-0 in New Jersey.

Back in MLS, Nick Cushing's team were held to a 1-1 draw by Colorado Rapids at Yankee Stadium last Sunday.

Talles Magno equalising after NYCFC had conceded in MLS for the first time in 607 minutes, the second-longest streak in league history.

Nevertheless, the Boys in Blue have generally been in red-hot form, accumulating 23 points from a possible 27, since crashing out of CONCACAF Champions League.

Who's unbeaten run will come to an end at Subaru Park?
