Tottenham are trying to secure a deal for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi on deadline day.
The Athletic and Guardian have both reported Palace have rejected a bid of Β£70million from Spurs for the England international ahead of the January window closing tonight at 11pm.
It seems unlikely the Eagles would sanction a move for their captain given they are already short of defensive numbers with Trevoh Chalobah having been recalled by Chelsea and Chadi Riad out for the rest of the season with a cruciate injury.
Guehi was pursued by Newcastle last summer but Spurs are in the market for reinforcements after a season ruined by injuries.
Micky van de Ven has missed much of the campaign but did return in last Thursdayβs Europa League win over Elfsborg but his fellow central defender Cristian Romero remains sidelined.
Romania international Radu Dragusin missed yesterdayβs 2-0 win at Brentford after hurting his knee in the Elfsborg game, as did Van de Ven who was rested.
Spurs have already brought in Kevin Danso from Lens although their hopes of signing Axel Disasi from Chelsea appear remote with the player preferring a switch to Aston Villa.
