Premier League round-up: 10-man Brentford beat Villa while Forest and Palace share the points

Aston Villa 0-1 Brentford

Brentford picked up their first-ever victory at Villa Park with a hard-fought 1-0 win against Unai Emery’s high-flyers.

An eventful end to the first half saw Kevin Shade sent off for the Bees for an apparent stamp on Matty Cash.

Just moments later, Dango Ouattara gave the 10 men the lead with an emphatic finish in stoppage time.

Four minutes after the restart, Aston Villa thought they had equalised through Tammy Abraham; however the goal was disallowed following a VAR review that deemed the ball had gone out of play in the build-up.

From there, the hosts dominated possession and tried desperately to get something out of the tie. In the end, a valiant defensive display from the visitors ensured Keith Andrews’s men take all three points and leapfrog Fulham – who fell to a 3-2 defeat at Old Trafford – into seventh spot.

Nottingham Forest 1-1 Crystal Palace

There was similar drama in the latter stages of the first period in the game between fellow strugglers Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace.

Morgan Gibbs-White gave Forest the early lead at the City Ground when he poked home after a long throw into the box inside five minutes.

And it stayed that way until the stroke of half-time when, from a Palace corner, Neco Williams saw red for appearing to clear a header off the goal-line with his hand.

There was little protest from the hosts, and from the resulting spot-kick, Ismaila Sarr drew the visitors level.

The result keeps Forest hovering just one place above the relegation zone, six points clear of West Ham.

Palace, meanwhile, are in 14th, three points and three places above Sean Dyche’s team.
