Wolves manager Vitor Pereira pleaded ignorance on reports Matheus Cunha is set to sign for Manchester United.

Reports in Brazil have claimed the forward is poised to seal a move to Old Trafford following an impressive two-and-a-half-season spell at Molineux.

Cunha initially joined on loan from Atletico Madrid in January 2023, with that move becoming permanent after certain clauses of the deal were met.

The Brazil international has served as Wolves’ talisman over the last two seasons, scoring 12 league goals last term and 15 this campaign to help lift the club away from the relegation zone.

Wolves face FA Cup winners Crystal Palace on Tuesday, and Pereira was asked about reports of a deal being close in his pre-match press conference.

“I have the same information as you. I don’t know. I just know he’s my player,” Pereira said.

“He’s committed with the team, he’s working with happiness and we will see what happens. You must ask him. He is happy. I feel he is happy.”

Able to play out wide and through the middle, Cunha’s versatility and talents as a goalscorer and creator would make him a massive asset to a United attack that has scored just 42 goals in the Premier League this season. Only the three relegated teams and Everton have scored fewer.

The lure of Champions League football would be a huge incentive for Cunha to make the move to United despite the dreadful season the Red Devils have endured.

United can finish no higher than 14th as it stands, but will qualify for the Champions League if they beat Tottenham in the Europa League final on Wednesday.
