Manchester City have withdrawn their interest in Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz, according to multiple reports.
The Germany international is reportedly a target for Bayern Munich, who deposed Leverkusen as Bundesliga champions this season.
City were said to have made an initial approach but are now reported to have decided the total package of a deal for the forward would be too expensive.
BBC Sport reported that the estimated deal would be the largest in City’s history and would cost up to €300million including transfer fees and wages.
Wirtz has tallied 16 goals and 14 assists in all competitions this season, having scored 18 goals and registered 19 assists in 2023-24 in helping Leverkusen to glory in the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal while also reaching the final of the Europa League.
But City appear set to look elsewhere for a new creative influence in forward areas, with Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White a potential alternative.
Gibbs-White has scored seven goals and provided eight assists this season, recording 15 goal involvements for the second successive season to help Forest challenge for Champions League qualification.
