Liverpool: Salah will get Anfield ‘send-off’ despite injury, says Van Dijk

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has no doubt Mohamed Salah will still get a fitting send-off from the fans regardless of whether he is able to play again this season.

Salah will leave Liverpool at the end of the campaign, but the Egyptian may not play for the club again after suffering a hamstring injury in their 3-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The Reds are still waiting to learn the extent of the injury following scans. However, with just four games of the season remaining, there appears to be a strong chance Salah may be out of action for his Anfield farewell against Brentford on the final day on May 24.

Liverpool skipper hopeful over Salah injury

Skipper van Dijk, who will depart at the end of next season, is confident that the injury will not stop Salah’s time at the club from being properly celebrated as he says his goodbyes.

“I know he is doing everything in his power to be back on the pitch as soon as possible,” Van Dijk said.

“If you get injured at this stage of the season, especially in the situation he is in, there is only two more home games left for him, it’s a combination of feelings that go through your mind.

“Hopefully he won’t be long. Maybe he’s back next week, maybe not. I have no idea.

“He will get the send-off regardless. I don’t think that is the thing at this point, we shouldn’t think too far ahead.

“Knowing Mo, he is a quick healer and with the right people around him and let’s see.”
