Unai Emery has cast uncertainty over the future of Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez following a tearful moment at Villa Park after their 2-0 win over Tottenham.
Martinez, visibly moved at the final whistle of Villa’s last home game of the season, shed tears in front of the home supporters.
The 32-year-old Argentine has become a fan favourite since joining the club from Arsenal in 2020, amassing over 200 appearances and twice earning the Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper award.
However, when questioned post-match about whether Martinez will remain at the club beyond the summer, Emery refused to give a clear answer.
“We will see,” the Villa manager said. “Of course, it is the last match here [this season], and I don’t know. We will see about the team, the players, but of course, they are responding on the field.”
The win over Spurs propelled Villa into the Premier League’s top five, keeping their Champions League hopes alive.
🚨 Emi Martínez will assess all the options also from Europe after Saudi Pro League clubs approaches, as he’s expected to leave Aston Villa.

Nevertheless, their fate remains in the hands of others. Villa must now beat Manchester United in their final game and rely on favourable results elsewhere to achieve back-to-back Champions League qualifications.
Looking ahead, Emery added: “Of course, then we will see about everything, how we are going to try to get better for the next season.”
Whether Martinez will be part of those plans remains to be seen, but his emotional reaction has raised speculation about a possible departure this summer, with links to the MLS and Saudi Arabia growing by the day.
