Burnley 0-2 Arsenal: Gunners sweep aside Clarets to extend winning run
Arsenal are still yet to lose at Turf Moor in the Premier League
Arsenal made it nine wins in a row with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Burnley in the Premier League.
Viktor Gyokeres and Declan Rice found the net in the first half as the Gunners raced into a two-goal lead before seeing the tie out.
Mikel Arteta’s side rarely looked in danger of being on the wrong side of a remarkable fightback at Turf Moor, with the hosts disappointing in attack.
The win extends Arsenal’s lead at the top of the table to seven points, which could be reduced depending on how results go elsewhere across the weekend.
How the action unfolded
Arsenal’s opening goal came in familiar fashion. From a set-piece, Rice’s in-swinging corner was met by Gabriel, whose knockback was gratefully received by Gyokeres to nod in his first goal in six games.
Rice then went from creator to goalscorer when he doubled the Gunner’s advantage with a wonderful header from Leandro Trossard’s cross.
Arteta’s men were cruising, on course for a ninth successive victory.
The second-half yielded very few chances as Arsenal, who have never lost away at Burnley in the Premier League, seemed content to see out the contest. The Clarets, meanwhile, offered little going forward.
Substitute Ethan Nwaneri came closest to scoring what would have been a sublime solo effort.
Spinning on the halfway line, the teenager charged towards Burnley’s goal before curling a lovely effort that flew just wide of Martin Dubravka’s post.
But it remained 2-0 and Arsenal’s impressive run of results this season goes on.
