Michael Carrick has been confirmed as the full-time Manchester United boss on a two-year contract having excelled in an interim position since January.
Carrick took over from Ruben Amorim following the Portuguese’s sacking and has masterminded a remarkable transformation in fortunes for United and they will finish the Premier League season in third place and looking forward to Champions League football next term.
The 44-year-old has won 11 of 16 matches in charge of the Old Trafford club and has now been rewarded with the job on a permanent basis.

I felt the magic of Manchester United – Carrick
The former United midfielder, who made 464 appearances for the club, told the club’s official website: “From the moment that I arrived here 20 years ago, I felt the magic of Manchester United. Carrying the responsibility of leading our special football club fills me with immense pride.
“Throughout the past five months this group of players have shown they can reach the standards of resilience, togetherness and determination that we demand here.
“Now it’s time to move forward together, with ambition and a clear sense of purpose. Manchester United and our incredible supporters deserve to be challenging for the biggest honours again.”
No team has won more points in the Premier League since Carrick was appointed four months ago and United’s technical director Jason Wilcox says he deserves a chance to build on that progress.
Wilcox said: “Michael has thoroughly earned the opportunity to continue leading our men’s team. In the time he has been doing the role, we have seen positive results on the pitch, but more than that, an approach which aligns with the club’s values, traditions and history.
“Michael’s achievements in leading the club back to the Champions League should not be understated. He has forged a strong bond with the players and can be proud of the winning culture at Carrington and in the dressing room, which we are continuing to build.”
Carrick inspires United alongside ‘good group of people’
Carrick’s first game in charge was a derby win over City and United have continued to improve ever since with victories over Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea.
They finish at Brighton on Sunday with Carrick addressing the fans following last weekend’s triumph over Nottingham Forest.
He said: “I want to thank the players, I have to say to everybody, this is such a good group of players.
“I know we are here for football and the performance but they are a really good group of people and I think that’s important, especially at this football club, where we make sacrifices for each other and look after each other. They are desperate to do well.
“Of course, I want to thank the staff, for the support they have given all of us over a period of time. Throughout the whole club. The effort and sacrifice that everyone goes to is what makes this place so special.”
