Manchester United winger Amad has found himself at the centre of controversy after an incident involving supporters during the club’s post-season trip to Malaysia.
A video circulating on social media captured Amad raising his middle finger towards fans outside the team’s hotel.
According to the club, this was in reaction to “serious personal abuse” directed at him about his mother.
“I have respect for people but not for the one who insults my mum,” Amad posted on X.
“I shouldn’t have reacted like that but I don’t regret what I did.
“We had a great time in Malaysia with good people.”
Manchester United confirmed that the abuse was not of a racist nature and occurred as players boarded the team bus.

Despite speculation, the club stated that chants of “Diallo” from supporters were not the cause of Amad’s response.
The 22-year-old from Ivory Coast has previously been linked to a trafficking case from his time at Atalanta, which resulted in a £42,000 fine from the Italian FA in 2021 for using false documents and fake guardians to gain entry into Italy.
Following this, he dropped “Traore” from his name and opted to go by “Amad.”
Amad featured in the second half of United’s 1-0 loss to the ASEAN All-Stars on Wednesday. The tour wraps up with a final match against Hong Kong on Friday.
