Cristiano Ronaldo will return to the national team, with Portugal head coach Roberto Martínez naming the 40-year-old in his 27-man squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League semi-final clash against Germany in June.
Ronaldo has been absent from Al Nassr’s last three fixtures and rumours have emerged of his potential departure – his current contract ends on June 30 – but Martinez shut down any speculation about his star forward’s physical condition.
“Regarding Cristiano’s fitness, he is available to play. There’s no problem,” Martínez said during the squad announcement.
Portugal’s all-time leading scorer has remained a menace in front of goal this term, netting 33 goals in 39 matches across all competitions for Al Nassr.
Yet as the final year of his current deal winds down, questions about his next steps continue to edge towards the front page. Martinez, however, is focused on the immediate task ahead.
“I feel very happy with the quality that we have in the squad. We have many options. We have four players in the Champions League final and that is interesting.”

The Spanish coach also brushed aside rumours linking Jose Mourinho with his position and reaffirmed his dedication to the long-term project he’s building with the national team.
“I can say what my focus is, that is the 2026 World Cup and that is what we are working on.
“We are working to improve, to grow and continue with the work we’ve done so far. The rest is noise but our focus is the World Cup.
“We are where we want to be, among the top four teams in Europe. Of course we want to win it [Nations League] but we want to use the Nations League also to prepare for the World Cup.”
