Vincent Kompany signs new Bayern Munich contract

Vincent Kompany has committed his long-term future to Bayern Munich after signing a new two-year contract extension that will keep him at the club until June 2029.

The former Manchester City captain took charge of Bayern in May 2024, and his previous deal was due to run until the summer of 2027.

Since arriving in Bavaria, the 39-year-old has made an instant impact, guiding the club to last season’s Bundesliga crown and recording 49 wins in 67 matches across all competitions.

“I’m grateful, honoured and would like to thank Bayern for the trust and the working environment they’ve given me from day one,” Kompany said.

“It feels like I’ve been here a lot longer and that I know the club well. It’s been a great experience so far.

“We’ve started on a wonderful journey. Let’s keep working hard and celebrate much more success.”

Kompany’s second campaign has started just as strongly, with Bayern lifting the German Super Cup and currently sitting five points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table.

Club president Herbert Hainer praised the Belgian’s work, describing the renewal as both a reward and a statement of intent.

“The contract extension with Vincent Kompany is a strong vote of confidence from the club after the great job he’s done up to now, as well as a clear sign for continuity and stability at Bayern,” Hainer said.

“Vincent is held in high regard by the players, the club management and the fans. We’re happy about the early extension of our cooperation.”

Before moving into management, Kompany enjoyed a decorated playing career at Manchester City, where he made 360 appearances, captained the team, and lifted four Premier League titles.

After hanging up his boots, he began his coaching career with boyhood side Anderlecht in 2019, initially as a player-manager before taking full charge the following year.

He led the Belgian outfit to two league titles before moving to England to manage Burnley in 2022.

Kompany guided Burnley to the Championship title in his debut season, though his side were relegated from the Premier League the following year after finishing 19th.
