Manchester United vs Juventus betting tips: Champions League match preview, predictions & odds

Manchester United vs Juventus prediction: Manchester United 0-2 Juventus

Arguably the biggest game of the entire Champions League group stages.

Manchester United have won 3 European Cups; Juve have won this competition twice in their history.

José Mourinho’s side have made an underwhelming start to the season but a win here could kick start their campaign.

Anthony Martial has been in great form lately. The French winger is 17/2 to score first and 3/1 to net anytime.

Cristiano Ronaldo will, of course, be Juve’s main goal threat. He’s 4/1 to score first on his Old Trafford return and 11/8 to score anytime.

Portugal’s captain is 45/1 to leave with his first Juve hat-trick.

Manchester United vs Juventus: Match preview

Have Manchester United started to find their feet?

After 7 Premier League games, The Red Devils had just 10 points, and had already lost to Brighton 3-2, Tottenham 3-0 and West Ham 3-1.

There were reports the day before their match with Newcastle that José Mourinho was set to be sacked, whatever the result.

This looked more and more likely when his side were 2-0 down inside 10 minutes.

However, goals, all of which came in the final 20 minutes, from Mata, Martial and Sánchez saw them win 3-2 and, maybe, just save Mourinho his job.

On Saturday, their manager made a return to Stamford Bridge, hoping to carry the momentum from their comeback win.

Despite falling behind early, two goals from Anthony Martial appeared to have secured a famous win.

However, Chelsea equalised in the 96th minute, the latest they’ve conceded in over 10 years, and it finished in a deflating 2-2 draw.

These two games with Juve could be vital in determining their Champions League future, based on their current predicament.

Their group stage campaign did get off to the perfect start though; a 3-0 victory in Bern over competition debutants Young Boys.

However, they were so flat earlier this month in a goalless home draw with Valencia.

With Valencia likely to beat Young Boys home and away, Manchester United cannot afford back to back defeats against the Old Lady.

Paul Pogba celebrates vs Young Boys

Best team in Europe right now?

No such worries for Juventus.

La Vecchia Signora are top of Serie A, 4 points above second place Napoli.

Massimiliano Allegri’s side won their first 10 matches of the season.

That included a 2-0 victory over Lazio and a 3-1 win against their main title rivals Napoli.

They’ve also won both of their Champions League matches.

They did it the hard way though.

Cristiano Ronaldo was sent off after just 29 minutes at the Mestalla and they faced a real battle to get the victory.

Nevertheless, two Miralem Pjanić penalties saw them win 2-0.

It was far more straight forward on matchday 2.

Paulo Dybala scored his fourth Juve hat-trick as they saw off Young Boys 3-0 at Allianz Stadium.

A win at Old Trafford and they’d have one foot in the last 16 already.

However, they did suffer the first bump in the road on Saturday.

Despite taking the lead through Ronaldo, they were held to a 1-1 home draw with Genoa and it’ll be interesting to see how they respond.

Is it the best or worst time to play them?

Manchester United team news vs Juventus

Six Manchester United players did not train on Monday in front of the watching media; they were, Alexis Sánchez, Marouane Fellaini, Phil Jones, Diogo Dalot, Scott McTominay and Jesse Lingard.

Mourinho confirmed that Alexis will not feature but it remains unknown how many of the rest will be available for this match.

José Mourinho very rarely names an unchanged side these days however, after Saturday’s performance, he might well do just that.

David de Gea has conceded 16 Premier League goals already this season, but for very few of those (if any) he can be blamed.

Five different central-defensive partnerships have been used by Mourinho already this season, the most common of which has been Smalling and Lindelöf.

Both look set to retain their place from the weekend.

Ashley Young and Luke Shaw received numerous plaudits for their performances at the weekend but this’ll be another huge test.

Nemanja Matić’s role will be crucial alongside Paul Pogba, who may be given more defensive responsibility than usual.

This game will also be a reunion for Pogba; the Frenchman won 8 major honours during 4 seasons in Turin.

He’ll play deeper to allow Juan Mata another start.

He was the creative hub of the side on Saturday and will have a big role to play once again.

Anthony Martial has been in great form recently too.

He’s scored 3 goals in the last 2 games; the first time he’s scored in back-to-back games since January.

Do he, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford have enough to cause Juve’s defence problems?

Cristiano Ronaldo reacts to red card vs Valencia

Massimiliano Allegri has some big decisions to make.

Not so in goal though, Wojciech Szczęsny is the established number 1 in Turin these days.

Although, he does not have happy memories of Old Trafford.

He conceded 10 goals in 3 visits during his Arsenal days including, famously, letting in 8 on his first appearance.

With Juve’s solid defence though, he’s unlikely to be that busy this time.

Portugal’s João Cancelo has established himself as the first choice right back this season and, on the other side, Alex Sandro is one of the most threatening full-backs in Europe.

Leonardo Bonucci has been a regular fixture at centre-back, but who his partner will be remains to be seen.

It’ll be one of Giorgio Chiellini, Andrea Barzagli or Medhi Benatia with the latter the front runner after he’s stared two of their last three.

They have exceptional midfield options too.

Former Liverpool man, Emre Can, has been ruled out through injury.

Miralem Pjanić does start regularly though and he’ll be alongside the rock solid Uruguayan Rodrigo Bentancur.

Blaise Matuidi will be on the bench.

Sami Khedira is injured.

An attacking trio of Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala and Federico Bernardeschi is as good as any; between them they’ve scored 11 times this season already.

Croatian World Cup hero Mario Mandžukić will spearhead the attack; he’s also managed to score four times himself.

And, if that isn’t enough, Douglas Costa and Juan Cuadrado will both be in reserve.

A squad oozing with class should have far too much for Manchester United.
