Newcastle v Ipswich match preview

Newcastle welcome back manager Eddie Howe from illness as they look to strengthen their hold on a Champions League spot with victory over Ipswich – who could be relegated on Saturday.

Ipswich need to win all of their remaining games to have the slimmest chance of survival so anything but a win on Saturday will confirm their return to the Championship.

Newcastle’s Carabao Cup win means they have already secured European football but they are in great shape to make it back into the Champions League by securing a top-five place.

Newcastle v Ipswich team news

Newcastle could be without defender Fabian Schar after he scored but then came off injured against Aston Villa. Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles are long-term losses so if Schar is not available then Emil Krafth may fill in.

Jacob Murphy will be looking to continue the form which has seen him score three goals and claim three assists in his last five games.

Ipswich are without left-back Leif Davis as he starts a three-match ban following a red card against Arsenal.

Ben Godfrey could fill in as Conor Townsend is stll out with a thigh injury.
