An explanation for the absence of Allan Saint-Maximin from Newcastle United’s latest matchday squad has been provided late on Saturday.
Eddie Howe’s troops are of course currently locked in action.
Amid a fine recent stretch of league form, the Magpies have turned their attentions towards matters in the FA Cup, making the trip to the Hillsborough Stadium for a meeting with Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday.
As things stand with 45 minutes on the clock in Yorkshire, Newcastle have failed to find an all-important breakthrough in proceedings, with the two sides locked in a stalemate ahead of the 2nd-half getting underway.
And such struggles come with boss Eddie Howe having been unable to call on an important member of his attacking ranks.
As alluded to above, Allan Saint-Maximin was a late scratch from the Magpies squad which made its way to the Hillsborough Stadium on Saturday evening.

An explanation for as much, though, has since been provided, with the reliable Craig Hope having confirmed that ASM is suffering from a bout of illness.
