Arsenal star Aaron Ramsdale has, on Sunday evening, provided an insight into an added motivational tool made use of by boss Mikel Arteta ahead of the club’s meeting with Newcastle United.
The Gunners, of course, were back in action earlier today.
After seeing Manchester City rattle off yet another victory at the expense of Leeds United 24 hours ago, Arteta and co. made the trip to St. James’ Park, for a daunting Premier League showdown with high-flying Newcastle United.
And, when all was said and done on Tyneside, Arsenal stood tall, to keep the pressure on table-topping City.
This came after Martin Odegaard’s early opener was added to by way of a Fabian Schar own goal, to guide the evening’s visitors to the right side of a 2-0 result.

Arsenal’s eventual triumph was widely hailed post-match, with the attitude displayed by the Gunners’ stars having been singled out as one particularly impressive aspect of their performance.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Arsenal’s no.1 revealed that Mikel Arteta, in the buildup to the clash, opted to play a clip from Amazon’s All or Nothing documentary.
The video in question showcased the dressing room scenes on the back of the north Londoners’ defeat at St. James’ Park last season, a result which ultimately cost them a top-4 berth.
Using as much as motivation this time round worked a treat, though, as Ramsdale details below:
“Immense pride and bit of relief as well, especially with the talk of what happened last year, to come here and put on a performance. We wanted to impose ourselves onto the game and the crowd.
“It (last year’s game) wasn’t mentioned until the meeting just before we left the hotel. The manager showed us a clip from the documentary last year, showed all of our faces, staff included, showing how hurt we were feeling. We had that burning desire as soon as we left the hotel that it wasn’t going to be the same today.
“It may have given us extra motivation. When we needed to dig deep, it really helped us.”
