Real Madrid have signed Ivory Coast winger Yan Diomande from Leipzig for an initial £107 million on a seven-year contract.
The fee is the largest ever paid by the 15-time European champions and will include add-ons of around £8.6m, according to the Guardian, who reported that the combined sums will eclipse the total of £115m the club paid Borussia Dortmund for Jude Bellingham in 2023.
Madrid teased Diomande’s arrival via a mock-up of a text exchange in which the 19-year-old told Madrid he was “so excited to be there soon”.

Yan Diomande: Why Real Madrid have signed winger
Madrid are lacking wingers and will have been impressed by Diomande’s outstanding season at Leipzig, which saw him end with the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season award.
Lightning-quick Blancos forward Vinicius Junior’s future is also uncertain, with the Brazil international yet to sign an extension to his contract beyond 2027 with Premier League holders Arsenal hovering.
Diomande has long been linked with Madrid but there was a hitch earlier this week when his former agents, Maximal Management – led by ex-Leeds United winger Max Gradel – lodged a complaint with FIFA after it emerged that Roc Nation, founded by rap star Jay-Z, were now looking after the player’s interests.
Leipzig managing director Marcel Schafer also appeared to refer to a post by transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano when he accused “self-proclaimed signing experts” of prematurely reporting the deal had been completed.
Having helped Ivory Coast reach the last 32 at the World Cup 2026, Diomande returned to Leipzig last Monday but had not been training with the squad.
As a deal with Madrid loomed, Leipzig were thought to be trying to ensure Diomande remained injury-free.
Yan Diomande stats
Born in the Ivorian capital of Abidjan, Diomande moved to the US as a 15-year-old and came through the DME Academy in Florida.
La Liga side Leganes signed Diomande in November 2024, giving him his debut in a 3-2 defeat at Madrid the following March.
In Leganes’ penultimate home match of the campaign, Diomande opened his account to help his side beat Espanyol 3-2.
Two months later, Leipzig activated Diomande’s release fee of around £17.2m. A run of goals in three consecutive games opened his Bundesliga account between October and November, followed by a hat-trick at home to Eintracht Frankfurt the following month.
Only five players bettered Diomande’s combined 20 goals and assists in his debut season in the Bundesliga in 2025/26, also winning 75 more duels than anyone else in the division, comfortably leading the way in successful dribbles per match and recording the fifth-highest speed.
Here are some of Diomande’s key figures from last season in all competitions.
| Appearances | 37 |
| Goals | 13 |
| Assists | 9 |

Yan Diomande Ivory Coast record
An Ivory Coast debutant in October 2025, Diomande scored in his first two senior international appearances and struck again during a win over Burkina Faso at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Having scored twice during World Cup qualification and set up a goal against Curacao to send Ivory Coast to the finals, Diomande proved predictably electric at the tournament.
A starter in all four of his country’s matches, Diomande helped The Elephants to an opening win over Ecuador and produced another assist in their victory over Curacao.
When will Yan Diomande play for Real Madrid?
Madrid’s next friendlies are against Ferencvaros on Saturday (18:00 BST) and Deportivo on Wednesday (20:00).
They then take on Schalke on August 16 (16:00) and visit Espanyol in their Liga opener on August 22 (20:30).
