Marcus Rashford has confirmed his departure from Barcelona after returning to Manchester United following the end of his loan spell at Camp Nou.
The England forward spent the 2025-26 season with the Spanish champions and helped the club secure LaLiga and the Spanish Supercopa, but Barcelona decided against activating their option to sign him permanently for around €30 million.
Rashford took to social media to thank Barcelona, their supporters and everyone involved at the club after his spell in Spain came to an end.
“I’m very grateful to everyone at the club for making my time here such a positive and memorable experience,” Rashford wrote.
“I’ve enjoyed every moment and will take many special memories with me. I wish the club and all its supporters the very best of luck and every success in the season ahead.”
The 28-year-old is currently on holiday after representing England at the World Cup, where Thomas Tuchel’s side finished third, but he is expected to return to Manchester United training at Carrington in early August.
Rashford’s Man Utd career unclear
However, Rashford’s position at Old Trafford remains unclear, with a return to Michael Carrick’s squad not guaranteed despite his successful season in Spain.
Rashford enjoyed one of the most productive campaigns of his career at Barcelona, scoring 14 goals and providing 14 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions.
Despite those numbers, Barcelona opted against completing a permanent transfer, with the club believed to have concerns over the financial package required to make the deal happen.
The Catalan giants had remained interested in bringing Rashford back either on another loan or for a reduced fee, but the arrivals of Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi appear to have changed their plans.
Gordon joined Barcelona from Newcastle United in a deal worth around £69 million, while Adeyemi arrived from Borussia Dortmund for an initial fee of approximately £20 million.
Manchester United are still expected to listen to offers for Rashford, with reports suggesting the club would ideally like to receive up to £35 million for a permanent departure.
Carrick has previously refused to rule out Rashford playing a role at United again, insisting that a decision over his future will be made at the appropriate time.
