The winners of the 2026 Ballon d’Or Goalkeeper of the Year winners have been announced with Unai Simon and Cata Coll scooping up the awards.
The duo are the fifth Spanish award winners at the Ballon d’Or ceremony so far, with the likes of Lamine Yamal, Luis de la Fuenta and Vicky Lopez also enjoying success in London on Monday night.
Simon has picked up the award for the first time after conceding only one goal as Spain won the World Cup in the summer.
The Athletic Bilbao stopper said: “Well done Cata [Coll]. A real honour for me to be here this evening.
“An award which wouldn’t be possible for all these people, I need to thank. My parents and my brother, who brought me up with these principles and values.
“I know that this is a very chaotic world and she [partner] brings some tranquillity to me.”
Coll was equally instrumental as Barcelona Femini won the Women’s Champions League and Liga F.
She said: “It is a privilege to share this event and to share this stage with Spaniard [Unai Simon].
“There is no greater honour than this.
“Thank you to my national team for enabling me to represent my country and allowing me to be better.
“This may be an individual prize, but they always say you can’t achieve these successes without everyone else involved.”
