Harry Maguire charged by FA after Bournemouth red card

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has been charged by the Football Association following his red card against Bournemouth.

The centre-back was accused of “improper conduct” after allegedly directing abusive or insulting language towards fourth official Matt Donohue after being sent off.

Maguire was dismissed in the second half by referee Stuart Attwell for a challenge that led to a penalty, from which Junior Kroupi converted to secure a 2-2 draw for the Cherries.

In a statement, the FA confirmed: “Harry Maguire has been charged after being sent off in the 78th minute of Man Utd’s Premier League match against Bournemouth on March 20.

“It’s alleged that the defender acted in an improper manner and/or abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards the fourth official following his dismissal. Harry Maguire has until April 2 to provide a response.”

The England international will serve a one-match suspension for the red card, ruling him out of United’s upcoming fixture against Leeds.

There is, however, potential defensive reinforcement on the horizon, with Lisandro Martinez closing in on a return from injury.
