World Cup groups 2026: Full list of confirmed teams and fixtures

The 48 teams who will take part in the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico have been confirmed.

DR Congo and Iraq were the final teams to reach the tournament, advancing shortly after play-off wins for Turkiye, Czechia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Sweden in European qualifying.

Curacao, Cape Verde, Uzbekistan and Jordan are making their World Cup debuts. Argentina are the defending champions.

Analysis: Who are favourites to win the World Cup?

Spain are the shortest-priced team, won EURO 2024 in style and can call upon a squad including 2024 Ballon d’Or winner Rodri and 2025 runner-up Lamine Yamal.

France, who lost to Argentina on penalties in the 2022 World Cup final, feature Ballon d’Or holder Ousmane Dembele and La Liga top scorer Kylian Mbappe among their ranks.

England were perfect in qualifying, reached the finals of EURO 2020 and 2024 and are spearheaded by the runaway leading marksman in the Bundesliga, Harry Kane.

The holders have also won the last two editions of the Copa America and are likely to be captained by eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi in his final outing at the tournament at the age of 38.

Messi’s arch generational rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, is set to lead Portugal’s attack at the age of 41, while four-time champions Germany are seeking their first knockout-stage appearance since their 2014 triumph.
