Manchester United 3-2 Fulham: Sesko strikes secures thrilling victory after blowing two-goal lead

Manchester United overcame a Fulham fightback from two goals down to win 3-2 in a thrilling Premier League game.

Raul Jimenez and Kevin had silenced Old Trafford with two late goals to cancel out Casemiro and Matheus Cunha’s strikes but Benjamin Sesko netted moments later in stoppage time to hand Michael Carrick his third straight win as United interim manager.

The win lifts the Red Devils back into fourth in the Premier League as they matched top-four rivals Chelsea and Liverpool’s victories on Saturday.

It also continued Carrick’s 100% start to life as interim, having beaten Manchester City and Arsenal as well as Fulham so far since replacing Ruben Amorim.

Man Utd vs Fulham as it happened

United went ahead on 19 minutes after VAR overturned a penalty into a free-kick. Bruno Fernandes swung it to the back post and Casemiro powered a header into the corner.

Fulham had spells of the ball and threatened without cutting through, with Senne Lammens saving from Harry Wilson’s free-kick and blocking Joachim Andersen from close range, but their best moments came to nothing.

The hosts then made it 2–0 on 56 minutes on the break, Casemiro threading a pass into the box for Cunha, who smashed a first-time finish into the roof of the net past Bernd Leno.

Jorge Cuenca then thought he had reduced the deficit when he tapped home from close range following a deflection but a lengthy VAR check resulted in the goal being turned out for an extremely tight offside.

Sesko nearly wrapped up the game just a minute after coming on but his header crashed off the woodwork before sending a second effort onto the roof of the net.

Fulham were down but certainly not out in the final 10 minutes and a chance went begging for Raul Jimenez, whose shot deflected off Harry Maguire before Senne Lammens tipped the ball over before Joachim Andersen saw a header flash wide.

The visitors were then awarded a penalty when Maguire and Jimenez renewed acquaintances as the defender brought down the striker with a desperate lunge.

Jimenez dusted himself down and fired the spotkick into the top corner to set up a grandstand finish at the Theatre of Dreams.

And Kevin then silenced Old Trafford by finding the equaliser by cutting inside a firing a wonderful effort into the top corner as Carrick looked set for his first stumbling block in charge.

But Sesko fired the Red Devils back in front after bringing down Fernandes’ ball across before firing it into the back of the net.
