Carragher urges Salah to make peace with Slot and protect heroic Liverpool send-off

Jamie Carragher believes Mohamed Salah should resist any immediate move away from Liverpool, arguing that the forward deserves a proper farewell at Anfield rather than a swift exit to Saudi Arabia.

Carragher, who recently criticised the Egypt international for claiming he had been “thrown under a bus” by head coach Arne Slot, does not expect Salah to remain at Liverpool beyond the current campaign.

However, he has urged the forward to set aside his disagreements with the manager and see out the season to protect his legacy at the club.

Salah is currently away on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations, but Carragher feels his return later this month could still shape a fitting conclusion to an illustrious Liverpool career.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher suggested the likelihood of Salah playing for Liverpool next season is low, but questioned whether supporters will continue to see the best of him in the months ahead.

“I don’t see Mo Salah playing for Liverpool next season. The big thing in my mind is, are we going to see Mo Salah from now until the end of the season?” Carragher said.

“If he’s thinking of moving on, I would urge him to think again. And the reason I say that is, if Mo Salah is to move from Liverpool now, the talk is he would go to the Saudi League.”

Carragher also highlighted the potential opportunities still available to Liverpool this season, particularly in cup competitions.

“Liverpool in the second half of the season could get to the FA Cup final, the Champions League final. Can you imagine Mo Salah in Saudi watching Liverpool come out in Budapest in the Champions League final?”

Salah was omitted from Liverpool’s midweek victory over Inter Milan following his public comments but returned to the starting line-up for Saturday’s Premier League win against Brighton.

After the final whistle, he acknowledged the Anfield crowd with applause, a gesture that did not go unnoticed.

A send-off worthy of his contribution

Carragher believes Salah has earned the right to a celebratory farewell, reflecting his impact since joining the club.

“He deserves a guard of honour, he deserves a mosaic in the Kop. He deserves to bring his wife and kids on the pitch in his last game and actually celebrate him for what he’s done as a Liverpool player,” Carragher said.

He concluded by encouraging Salah to focus on the short term for the benefit of both player and club.

“So put your differences with the manager aside for four months and get this great big send-off.”
