John McGinn signs new Aston Villa contract
The Scotland international has extended his stay at Villa Park
Aston Villa captain John McGinn has signed a new contract that ties him to the club until 2028.
The Scotland midfielder joined Villa from Hibernian in 2018 and has played a key role in the club’s ascent from the Championship to the Champions League.
He signed a four-year deal in 2023 but the new terms mean he will stay at the West Midlands club for a further 12 months.
McGinn was linked with Everton and Newcastle over the summer but Villa boss Unai Emery made clear his desire to keep the 31-year-old and has been rewarded with a series of stellar displays.
Villa have climbed the Premier League table in recent weeks after a slow start and are also going well in the Europa League, thanks largely to McGinn’s goals against Bologna and Feyenoord.
