Injured Alisson ‘not playing on Saturday’ confirms Slot

Liverpool will be without goalkeeper Alisson when they face Chelsea on Saturday after the Brazilian was injured in Istanbul.

Alisson had to be replaced by Giorgi Mamardashvili in the 56th minute of the 1-0 defeat at Galatasaray.

The extent of the injury is not yet known but manager Arne Slot was quick to rule him out of an instant return.

“It’s never positive if you go off like this,” Liverpool boss Slot said. “You can be sure he is not playing Saturday.”

Slot saw his side defeated for a second time in a few dadys and played a muddled team, with Dominik Szoboszlai at right-back and Jeremie Frimpong taking Mo Salah’s place on the wing.

Szoboszlai conceded a penalty for the only goal of the game but Slot defended the midfielder.

“We are sometimes a bit out-smarted in situations like this and I cannot blame Dominik Szoboszlai for the situation,” Slot sasid.

“They make a 20% penalty a 100% penalty, which is very smart from them.

“We are not so far [off the level shown last season]. This is sometimes what the schedule can bring, Galatasaray is not a simple game. We now play Chelsea away, a difficult game.

“The margains are small and they were last season. For the second time in a row we are on the wrong side.”
