Liverpool produced a fine performance to beat in-form Brighton and move within a point of the Seagulls at the top of the Premier League.

The visitors had kept five consecutive clean sheets in all competitions heading up to Anfield but were blown away by Andoni Iraola’s side in the opening 20 minutes.

German playmaker Florian Wirtz saw his powerful shot deflect in off the influential figure of Pascal Gross to put the home side ahead.

Cody Gakpo was then denied by a brilliant save from Bart Verbruggen as free-scoring Brighton struggled in the early stages.

And Alexander Isak doubled the lead after a great run and cross from Bradley Barcola.

The Sweden forward now has six goals in his last six Premier League appearances and appears to be back to his best.

The Seagulls were disjointed by an early injury to Ferdi Kadioglu who had to come off after only six minutes but still had their chances.

Yasin Ayari had a fine effort blocked but the visitors could only manage one shot on target.

The second half was a non event as Liverpool closed out a solid home win – Iraola’s first at home in the league.

Brighton’s loss was only their second in 13 matches in all competitions in 2026-27.
