MLB: Power Rankings For All 30 Teams After The All-Star Break

The Dodgers take the top spot, while the Tigers have solidified themselves as the best team in the American League.

MLB: Power Rankings For All 30 Teams After The All-Star Break

The Major League Baseball All-Star Game was held two nights ago at Truist Park, which means we are in the home stretch of the 2025 season.

Some teams (like the Dodgers) have lived up to the hype, while other squads (like the Tigers) have shocked the world and emerged as one of the league’s best teams. Then there are organizations like Atlanta and Texas, which have failed to meet preseason expectations.

With more than half of the season in the books, let’s rank all 30 MLB teams from best to worst.

#1 Los Angeles Dodgers

This shouldn’t be much of a surprise. The defending World Series champions continue to look like the class of Major League Baseball, even if they are in the middle of a little slump right now. In that case, the All-Star Break couldn’t have come at a better time. Now, the Dodgers can refocus themselves and get ready for the back half of the 2025 season. They are still the obvious favorites to win the National League pennant.

#2 Detroit Tigers

Many people thought the Tigers would be good this season, but I don’t think anybody expected them to have the best record in baseball at the All-Star Break. They’re running away with their division and will probably be the number-one seed in the American League. They do everything well. Detroit has the ninth-best team ERA in the majors (3.69) as well as the sixth-most runs scored (482).

#3 Houston Astros

The Chicago Cubs could’ve easily earned the third spot on our list, but the Astros get the nod because they have a huge lead in their division. As good as Chicago has been, there’s still a chance they could end up being a Wild Card team. Houston brings a lot of balance to the table. The ‘Stros are currently tied for first in team batting average while leading the league in opponent strikeouts. Plus, their opponents have the second-lowest batting average in baseball.

#4 Chicago Cubs

There isn’t a whole lot that separates the Astros and the Cubs. Chicago may have one more win than Houston, but they only have a one-game lead in their division, unlike the Astros, who lead the AL West by five games. A good amount of Chicago’s success can be attributed to their All-Star outfielders, Pete Crow-Armstrong and Kyle Tucker, who have already combined for 50 home runs and 148 RBIs, the most of any duo in baseball.

#5 Toronto Blue Jays

Going 7-3 over their last ten games and taking command of the AL East makes the Blue Jays the fifth-best team in the majors. Consistent hitting and a reliable bullpen have helped the Blue Jays emerge as the team to beat in their division. Toronto is tied with Houston for the best batting average in the league (.258) and the fifth most hits recorded (838). On the mound, the Blue Jays are fifth in strikeouts (854) and tied for fourth in saves (28) despite being towards the bottom of the league in team ERA.

#6 Milwaukee Brewers

The Brewers are arguably the hottest team in baseball, with eight wins in their last ten games. A lot of the recent success can be attributed to the pitching staff, which has had the third-best ERA in the league since the start of July (2.89). It also doesn’t hurt that Milwaukee’s pitchers have the third-most strikeouts this month, too. Christian Yelich is also playing like an All-Star since he’s projected to finish the season with 32 home runs and 110 RBIs.

#7 Philadelphia Phillies

The Phillies could’ve benefited from a stronger push heading into the All-Star Break. Now, they’re only a half a game ahead of the Mets after going 2-4 in their last six games. Philly’s pitching has kept them afloat and ahead in the NL East. As a team, they are tied with the Brewers for the fewest hits allowed in July (75). They’re also tied with two other teams for the fewest runs allowed this month (35).

#8 Boston Red Sox

After rattling off ten straight wins, the Boston Red Sox look like one of the best teams in baseball. Only the Brewers have a longer winning streak heading into the All-Star Break. There has been an offensive explosion in Boston, where the Red Sox have the most hits, RBIs, and runs scored in July. They also have an astonishing 2.17 ERA this month, which is the best mark in the league. This is not the same team that was 29-34 on June 3rd.

#9 New York Yankees

The Mets and Yankees are neck-and-neck with each other. They’re both second in their division, and both went through long losing stretches. Even though the Mets are closer to first in their division and have a better record than the Yanks, I give the Yankees the slight edge. They’ve just been one of the best hitting teams in the league this month. They’re near the top in batting average (third), hits (third), RBIs (third), and runs scored (third). On top of that, they lead the league in home runs (151) and OPS (.791)

#10 New York Mets

The Mets are actually playing relatively well, considering they have been absolutely dreadful at the plate recently. During July, they’re 20th in batting average and tied for 19th in hits. Despite these struggles, they’ve still managed to generate runs with 58 this month (tied for tenth in the MLB). Their best players have helped them stay near the top of the NL East. Juan Soto, Pete Alonso, and Francisco Lindor have recorded 14 of the team’s 24 RBIs in the week leading up to the All-Star Game.

#11 San Diego Padres

The Padres have consistently been able to rely on their pitching staff to keep them near the top of the National League. They’re tied for seventh in team ERA and are ninth in ERA since the start of July. They have also given up only 727 hits, the third-fewest allowed in the majors. If San Diego can improve on its .240 batting average this month, it’ll be a threat to go all the way in October.

#12 Seattle Mariners

There is very little that separates the Mariners and the Giants, who easily could’ve taken the 12th spot on our list. Unfortunately, San Fran is on a two-game losing streak while the Mariners have won three in a row, so they get the nod in the power rankings. Home Run Derby champion Cal Raleigh is the leader of Seattle’s power-hitting attack. The Mariners are sixth in home runs (136), seventh in RBIs (435), and seventh in slugging percentage (.418).

#13 San Francisco Giants

They’re 6-4 over their last ten games and are a half a game back in the NL Wild Card race. Hitting has not been their forte, though. They have the third-worst batting average (.229) and seventh-worst OPS (.679) in the league. Their pitching has been their saving grace. San Fran has the third-best ERA (3.50) in the majors while allowing the second-fewest earned runs (334). Their hitting needs to improve, though.

#14 St. Louis Cardinals

The Cardinals were hurt by three different losing streaks of four or more games, but they’ve still managed to stay in the hunt for a Wild Card spot. Since the start of May, they’re 37-29. The problem is that they’re 20th in team ERA (4.11). They make up for it with offense, though. The Cards are 11th in hits (826), tenth in runs scored (444), and tenth in RBIs (423). If they want to come close to the playoffs, they’re going to have to fix their pitching staff, which has the fifth-worst ERA this month (5.40).

#15 Cincinnati Reds

Cincy is another team that could make a playoff push by clinching one of the National League’s three Wild Card spots. Considering they are fourth in the NL Central and 7.5 games back from first place, they don’t have a shot at winning their division. The Reds are a middle-of-the-road hitting team that relies on their pitching to get them wins. They’re tied for ninth as a team in terms of WHIP (1.24). They’re also ninth in opponent batting average (.236) and tied for eighth in hits allowed (761).

#16 Texas Rangers

The Rangers have the best pitching staff in baseball. Texas leads the MLB in ERA (3.28) and earned runs allowed (314). They also rank in the top five in terms of WHIP (1.17), opponent batting average (.230), home runs allowed (89), and hits allowed (736). Surprisingly, offense has been the Rangers’ downfall. They’re 22nd in runs scored, 24th in hits, and 25th in batting average. They’re wasting Jacob deGrom’s elite season, where he currently has the fourth-best ERA in the majors (2.32).

#17 Tampa Bay Rays

July has not been kind to the Rays. A team that was once 47-38 is now 50-47 after going 3-9 in their last 12 games. Tampa Bay’s batting average is down to .251 this month despite the team having the third-highest batting average in the majors so far this season. Their pitching has also been dreadful. They have a team ERA of 4.05 in July, which is well above the 3.78 mark they have on the season. They need to turn things around soon. Otherwise, Tampa will miss the postseason for a second consecutive year.

#18 Kansas City Royals

Ignore their losing record. Instead, appreciate the fact that this team went 7-3 over their last ten games, which is tied with the Blue Jays for the third-best record in the league during that stretch. This is another squad with a good pitching staff that is being let down by its batters. They have the second-best ERA in the majors this season (3.49), but that won’t do much good when you have the second-worst offense in all of baseball (328 runs scored). At least Bobby Witt Jr. has the fifth-highest WAR in the MLB (4.4).

#19 Minnesota Twins

There are many reasons why the Twins are on track to miss the playoffs for a second straight year. They’ve been terrible since the start of June with a 16-23 record during that stretch. They also underperformed on the road, where they have the fifth-fewest wins in baseball (19). Had they not been shellacked for a 6.07 ERA in June, they would likely be in the hunt for a playoff spot right now.

#20 Los Angeles Angels

There is not much of a difference between the Angels and the Diamondbacks. LA is fourth in the AL West, while Arizona is fourth in the NL West. They’re both 4-6 in their last ten games, but the Angels get the higher spot in the power rankings because they’ve gone 6-7 this month versus the Diamondbacks, who are 5-8. The Angels’ offense has picked up in July with 59 runs scored, tied with the Cubs for the eighth-most in the league.

#21 Arizona Diamondbacks

Scoring has not been a problem for the D-Backs, who have put up the fourth-most runs in baseball this season (493). Unfortunately, their defense has been almost as bad as their offense has been good. Their 446 earned runs allowed is the fifth-most in the league. It doesn’t help that their scoring has cooled down considerably in July (tied for the 12th-most runs scored this month). With a pitching staff that has a 4.01 ERA in July, it’s not too surprising that they have a losing record up to this point.

#22 Cleveland Guardians

This season has been a real disappointment for a team that won its division last year and made it to the ALCS. After opening the season 29-24, they’ve been in a downward spiral since June, going 17-23 over the last two months. Last month, they had the worst batting average in the majors (.206). As bad as they were in June, they’ve been even worse in July, with a .200 batting average. When your bats are that cold, it doesn’t matter if you finish with a top-ten ERA in back-to-back months.

#23 Miami Marlins

The Miami Marlins are a perpetually terrible baseball team. That would explain why they have only made the playoffs twice since winning the 2003 World Series. They have no home-field advantage, which is why they’re seven games below .500 when playing in Miami. It’s a shame they’re so terrible because their pitching staff has the second-best ERA this month (2.61). Had they not started the season 20-31, they might actually be in the hunt for a Wild Card spot.

#24 Baltimore Orioles

Even though they went into the All-Star Break on a two-game losing streak, they’re still 6-4 over their last ten games. Unfortunately, much like the Marlins, they got off to a terrible start, going 18-34 combined in April and May. They were so abysmal because they allowed the third-most earned runs during those two months (290). Though their pitching staff has been better in July, they still have the fourth-worst ERA in the majors (4.92).

#25 Atlanta Braves

I feel pretty stupid for picking the Braves to win the NL East before Opening Day. Next to maybe only the Texas Rangers, the Braves are the most disappointing team of the 2025 season. This is a franchise that won the World Series four years ago and has made seven straight playoff appearances. They won’t be sniffing the postseason this year, though. When they miss the playoffs, the blame can be pointed at the offense, which has the seventh-fewest runs scored this season (388).

#26 Athletics

It’s sad to see a professional baseball team relegated to playing its home games at a 14,000-seat ballpark in Sacramento, California, but that’s how bad things have gotten for the A’s. They have the second-worst run differential (-134) in the MLB, as well as the third-highest team ERA (5.20). The good news is that their 23-year-old shortstop, Jacob Wilson, is a stud who is second in the league in hits (113) and batting average (.332).

#27 Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates are arguably as bad as the Washington Nationals, who come in 28th place on our list. They have the same amount of losses as the Nats, compared to just one more win. Unlike the Nationals, the Pirates have an electric pitcher in Paul Skenes, who makes the Pirates a team worth watching whenever he takes the mound. As of this writing, he has the best ERA in the majors (2.01).

#28 Washington Nationals

They’re 2-8 in their last ten games and only have eight wins since June 7th. I guess that’s why they fired their manager and general manager earlier this month. Even with new people running the show, don’t expect much to change baseball-wise in Washington, D.C. The Nats have the third-worst run differential in the league (-102). They also have the second-worst ERA in baseball (5.21), ahead of only the Colorado Rockies.

#29 Chicago White Sox

The Chicago White Sox are so bad, they can’t even be the worst team in baseball. On top of that, their historic modern era loss record might be broken this season. The White Sox don’t even know how to be historically bad the right way. The good news is that they’ll easily beat last year’s win total with 54 projected victories. The bad news is they’re still going to finish with 100+ losses for the third straight year.

#30 Colorado Rockies

There was never any question that the Rockies are the worst team in baseball. Even though they have gone 13-24 after starting the season 9-50, they’re still 22-74, giving them the worst record in baseball. They’re on track to go 37-125, which would easily break the modern era single-season loss record set by the White Sox last year. At least they drafted the best prospect in the Class of 2025.
