Wimbledon 2025: Day 3 picks with Sabalenka, Alcaraz and Fritz in action

Will seeds continue to fall like flies or will the established players win through on day three at Wimbledon 2025?

Wimbledon 2025: Day 3 picks with Sabalenka, Alcaraz and Fritz in action

After two days of carnage for seeded players at Wimbledon, will things calm down on Wednesday?

Thirteen seeds on the men’s side went out in round one – a record for the tournament – while the likes of Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula, numbers two and three, were eliminated in the women’s draw.

A glance at today’s order of play suggests things should be a little smoother for the likes of Aryna Sabalenka and Carlos Alcaraz while there is plenty of US interest as well with Frances Tiafoe, Taylor Fritz and Madison Keys all in action.

Two of our three picks yesterday were spot on – while we also foresaw problems for Gauff, albeit not a defeat against Dayana Yastremska.

Here, we take a look at three matches to keep an eye on!

Ollie Tarvet (Gbr) v 2 Carlos Alcaraz (Spa)

Alcaraz was relatively poor in his first-round clash with veteran Italian Fabio Fognini.

The two-time defending champion was pushed to five sets having produced an error-strewn performance on Centre Court.

He will expect better today when he takes on Brit Tarvet, who beat Leandro Riedl in his opener.

Tarvet has come through the US college system and is studying for a communications and marketing degree at the University of San Diego. He has won titles on the ITF Tour and is clearly one for the future.

However, in the present he should be no match for Alcaraz.

Prediction: Alcaraz in straight sets

Cam Norrie (Gbr) v 12 Frances Tiafoe (USA)

A more difficult one to call with two grizzled veterans of the ATP Tour meeting on Court One.

Tiafoe has performed well in grand slams in the past 12 months, reaching the semis in New York and the quarters in Paris. He also played very well in his opener here, beating Elmer Moller for the loss of just nine games.

Norrie’s lefty serve and grittiness means he will never be an easy opponent. He reached the semis at SW19 three years ago but has slid down the rankings since.

Prediction: Tiafoe in four sets

5 Taylor Fritz (USA) v Gabriel Diallo (Can)

Fritz can be forgiven for thinking the tennis gods have not been particularly kind.

Having survived the challenge of big-serving Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in round one, he now faces another dangerman in Canadian Diallo.

Diallo won the warm-up event in s’Hertogenbosch, beating the likes of Karen Khachanov and Ego Humbert en route, and won’t be a pushover.

Two-time Wimbledon quarter-finalist Fritz should have just about enough to progress.

Prediction: Fritz in four sets
