AFC CL: Reysol win 2-0 at Jeonbuk; Nagoya, Persepolis, Guangzhou, Sepahan & Al-Hilal make last 16

Jeonbuk Hyundai 0 – Kashiwa Reysol 2 (AFC Champions League, May 15, 2012) Jeonbuk had been top of the table at the start of the sixth and final round of group games, but they fell behind against Kashiwa when Leandro Domingues netted with a fine low shot across goal into the bottom left corner after 48 minutes. Junya Tanaka added a second goal in the 61st minute, tapping in from close range after Leandro Domingues’ shot was touched against the right post.

Nagoya Grampus Eight 3 – Central Coast Mariners 0 (AFC Champions League, May 15, 2012) Nagoya were comfortable home winners over Central Coast Mariners, with Keiji Tamada setting them on their way in the 19th minute and Jungo Fujimoto adding a second goal after 36 minutes. Australian side Central Coast conceded a third, to Marcus Tanaka, with three minutes remaining.

Al Shabab 1 – Persepolis 3 (AFC Champions League, May 15, 2012) Persepolis sealed their progression from Group D as runners-up after a 3-1 win at already-eliminated Al Shabab, who took the lead through Issa Mohamed on eight minutes. The Iranian side levelled through Eamon Zayed three minutes before the break, before second-half strikes by Mehrdad Pooladi and substitute Hossein Badamaki secured victory.

Burirum United 1 – Guangzhou Evergrande 2 (AFC Champions League, May 15, 2012) Dario Conca scored a penalty in second-half injury-time to clinch victory for Evergrande, which put the Chinese club top of Group H and through to the Round of 16.

Sepahan 2 – Al Ahli 1 (AFC Champions League, May 15, 2012) Sepahan progressed as winners of the section thanks to goals by Xhevahir Sukaj (19) and Mohsen Bengar (84). Emad Al-Hosani replied for Al Ahli after 63 minutes.

Al-Hilal 2 – Al Gharafa 1 (AFC Champions League, May 15, 2012) Goals by Ahmed Al-Faridi (48) and Nawaf Al-Abed (65) had the Saudi hosts cruising, while Osama Hawsawi’s 82nd-minute own-goal was scant consolation for Al Gharafa.

A Man City-esque comeback: Two late goals send Santos to Mexican Clausura final

Santos Laguna 2 – Tigres UANL 2 (Agg. 3-3) (Mexico Primera Division Clausura semi-final second leg, May 13, 2012) Santos will face Monterrey in the final after coming from 2-0 down in the final three minutes. An early double from Hector Mancilla had put Tigres in charge but goals from Oribe Peralta on 87 and 90 secured Santos a spot in the final due to a better record in the Clausura season.

Tigres to meet Santos Laguna in Mexican semis

Morelia 1 – Tigres 4 (Primera Division Clausura, May 6, 2012) All five goals at the Estadio Morelos were scored in the final 25 minutes with defender Hugo Ayala opening the way for the visitors from Chilean Hector Mancilla’s cross. Ten minutes later two goals in quick succession from Argentine playmaker Lucas Lobos and Brazilian substitute Edno settled the tie. Striker Miguel Sabah pulled one back before midfielder Elias Hernandez rounded off Tigres’ emphatic victory with a penalty in the final minute.

Monterrey & America advance to the Clausura final

Monterrey 2 – Tijuana 2 (Primera Division Clausura, May 5, 2012)  Things were looking bad for Monterrey when they conceded to Egidio Arevalo Rios after nine minutes, then had Angel Reyna sent off just after the half-hour. Cesar Delgado levelled on the stroke of half-time and the numbers were evened up with Miguel Almazan’s dismissal five minutes after the restart. Rios scored again from the spot in the 61st minute to level the tie, but Basanta netted four minutes later and the match was effectively over when Tijuana were reduced to nine men as half-time substitute Armando Pulido saw red in the 72nd minute.

America 0 – Pachuca 1 (Primera Division Clausura, May 5, 2012) Defender Nestor Vidrio scored the only goal of the game when he received a pass outside the box and hammered the ball to goalkeeper Moises Munoz’s top left corner.

Pachuca 1 – CF America 3 (Primera Division Clausura, May 2, 2012) Two goals from Christian Bermudez helped Club America to a 3-1 victory over Pachuca.

Tijuana 1 – Monterrey 2 (Primera Division Clausura, May 2, 2012) Jesus Zavala headed in from a corner for the first in the 31st and Angel Reyna scored the second from outside the box after halftime. Raul Enriquez got one back late in the game for Tijuana, but los Xolos will need to win by two clear goals in the return leg to go through to the semifinals.

FC Tokyo 4 – Brisbane Roar 2 (Asian Champions League, May 2, 2012) Needing to win by three goals to have any hope of progressing to the knockout stages of the AFC Champions League, the Roar failed to go on with the job after taking a fourth-minute lead through Besart Berisha. Kazuma Watanabe bagged  abrace for the J-Leaguers.

Adelaide United 0 – Bunyodkor 0 (Asian Champions League, May 2, 2012) Adelaide United have moved into the second round after a scoreless draw against Bunyodkor.
