Travis Kelce dodges question on Taylor Swift proposal but says he needs to match her ‘energy’ in Super Bowl LIX

Kelce said he takes inspiration from his girlfriend's work ethic

Travis Kelce dodged questions around a potential proposal to Taylor Swift but insisted his superstar girlfriend would be rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX at the weekend.

The Chiefs are looking to create history as the first team to win three successive Super Bowls when they come up against the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans on Sunday.

Swift is expected to be in attendance to see if 35-year-old Kelce can provide the offensive power to see off the Eagles.

And asked if he planned to give Swift a ring if the Chiefs win, he replied: “A Super Bowl ring? Next question.”

Speculation has suggested Swift may have Eagles allegiances given she was born in Pennsylvania but Kelce said with a smile: “I know her father is an Eagles fan. But she’ll be all in for the Chiefs this time around for sure.”

Swift is an inspiration for Kelce

Swift is arguably the biggest pop star in the world and is renown for delivering up-tempo shows despite a gruelling schedule, and Kelce says that provides inspiration for him.

He said: “I better hold up my end of the bargain. If she’s out here being the superstar she is, never taking no for an answer, and always working her tail off, I better match that energy for sure.”

Kelce has no plans to retire

Kelce has had an average season by his lofty standards but the tight end will still be a key part of the offense under the guidance of quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

And he hopes to be playing football for many years to come, despite his high-profile relationship and a burgeoning podcast career alongside brother Jason.

Responding to a question about where he sees himself in three years’ time, Kelce said: “Hopefully still playing football. I love doing this, I love coming into work every day. I feel like I still have a lot of good football left in me. We’ll see what happens.

“I know I’ve been setting myself up for other opportunities in my life. That’s always been the goal knowing football only lasts for so long. You have to find a way to get into another career and another profession. I’ve been doing that in my offseason. But for the most part, I plan on being a Kansas City Chief and playing football.”
