Argentina and France went head-to-head in the 2022 World Cup final on Sunday.
Argentina eventually picked up the win in what was arguably the greatest World Cup final of all time.
Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe squared off and both players shone on the day. Mbappe netted a hat-trick and scored his penalty in the shootout, whilst Messi netted two and scored his penalty in the shootout, which Argentina won 4-2.
After the game, Messi took to Instagram to pen a message.
Messi said on Instagram: “CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD!!!!!! I dreamed it so many times, I wanted it so much that I still haven’t fallen, I can’t believe it. Thank you very much to my family, to all who support me and also to all who believed in us.
“We demonstrate once again that Argentines when we fight together and united we are capable of achieving what we set out to do. The merit belongs to this group, which is above individualities, it is the strength of all fighting for the same dream that was also the dream of all Argentines... We did it! Go Argentina! we are seeing each other very soon.”
Messi also clarified his future for Argentina, confirming he will continue to play for the national side: “I’m not going to retire from the national team. I want to keep playing as world champions in the Argentina shirt.”
