‘I certainly don’t condone this’: Erik ten Hag hits out at Cristiano Ronaldo for leaving Manchester United game early

Erik ten Hag has shared his thoughts on Cristiano Ronaldo leaving Manchester United’s last pre-season friendly early.

Manchester United drew 1-1 with La Liga outfit Rayo Vallecano on Sunday afternoon, in what was their final pre-season game of the summer before the Premier League campaign kicks off on August 5th.

Ronaldo was subbed off after 45 minutes on Sunday, being replaced by Amad Diallo. The Manchester United striker was then pictured leaving the ground before the full-time whistle had even gone.

Many fans were very angry with Ronaldo for doing this and made their feelings known on social media.

However, despite the outrage, Sky Sports then reproted that after pictures of Ronaldo leaving Old Trafford prior to the final whistle emerged on social media, United clarified he was one of a number of players to do so, and it is not an issue for the club.

Comments on the part of United boss Erik ten Hag which have come to light on Wednesday, though, suggest that it is an issue for him at least.

When asked about Ronaldo leaving Old Trafford early, the former Ajax boss said: “I certainly don’t condone this. This is unacceptable. For everyone. We are a team and you have to stay until the end.”

Elsewhere, it has been reported that Ronaldo was expected to be part of the United squad that faces Brighton this coming weekend. However, given Ten Hag seemingly has a different view to the one put out by the club, that may not be the case.
