Wimbledon legend Serena Williams has announced she will make a sensational return to singles action at the tournament this summer after being handed the final wildcard spot by the All England Club on Sunday.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion will return at SW19, where the tournament is scheduled to get under way on 29 June.
The 44-year-old had already announced a highly-anticipated return to the historic grass courts alongside her sister Venus in the doubles.
Widely considered the greatest female tennis player to ever grace the court, Williams first made her Wimbledon debut in 1998.
She captured her first singles crown in 2002 by defeating Venus in the final, sparking a legendary run that saw her secure seven singles titles on Centre Court (2002, 2003, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2015, 2016) and six doubles trophies. Along the way, she dominated the women’s game, spending an incredible 319 weeks at the top of the WTA rankings.
Serena’s last singles outing at Wimbledon came in 2022 when she entered as a wildcard.
