Philadelphia Eagles @ Jacksonville Jaguars: Preview, prediction and odds

Preview for Philadelphia Eagles @ Jacksonville Jaguars

The Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars head to London for Week 5 in the NFL at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

The Eagles are looking to respond after a narrow defeat to the Los Angeles Rams, while Jacksonville arrive in the capital following an impressive road win against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Jaguars began the season with a victory over the Cleveland Browns and have also beaten the New England Patriots and Bengals, leaving them well placed in the AFC South.

Philadelphia have endured a difficult fortnight after winning their opening two games.

Nick Sirianni’s side were beaten 27-7 by the Chicago Bears in Week 3 before suffering a 24-20 home defeat against the Los Angeles Rams last Sunday.

Philadelphia’s injury problems are the biggest concern for Sirianni ahead of Sunday’s game.

Running back Saquon Barkley is dealing with a hamstring injury and is expected to miss out, while wide receiver DeVonta Smith is also unlikely to feature after missing the defeat to the Rams.

Hollywood Brown has been struggling with an ankle problem, and Dontayvion Wicks suffered a hamstring injury during the week, further reducing Hurts’ options in the passing game.

Tight end Dallas Goedert has been limited in practice because of a knee issue, although he remains hopeful of being available.

The offensive line is another major concern. Drew Kendall has missed practice with a knee injury, while Fred Johnson has been limited.

On defence, Jonathan Greenard, Marcus Epps, Zack Baun and Jihaad Campbell have all been managing injuries, although cornerback Quinyon Mitchell returned to full practice on Thursday.

Jacksonville look well placed to continue their impressive start to the season against a Philadelphia side struggling with injuries.

The Jaguars have been particularly strong defensively, and their ability to stop the run could prove important against an Eagles offence likely to be without Barkley.

Hurts remains capable of creating problems with his mobility, but the absence of several important receiving options and the changes along Philadelphia’s offensive line could make it difficult to establish any rhythm.

The Jaguars’ familiarity with playing in London provides another advantage, and they should have enough quality on both sides of the ball to claim a third consecutive victory.

Prediction: Philadelphia Eagles 17-27 Jacksonville Jaguars
