Why Paul Pogba was absent from France training on Sunday

An explanation for the absence of Paul Pogba from France national team training on Sunday has been provided.

And the news will no doubt spark at least some level of concern back at Manchester United.

As per a report from French journalist Baptiste Durieux, Pogba was in fact left with no choice but to sit out the latest session undertaken by Didier Deschamps' troops this afternoon.

This comes with the midfielder understood to have picked up a contusion in his left foot.

Notably when it comes to the plans of Ralf Rangnick and co. for their star midfielder over the weeks ahead, though, it as assured that the issue is 'nothing serious'.

Pogba therefore looks altogether unlikely to spend any sort of significant spell on the sidelines.

World champions triumph

Pogba, of course, played a key role during the week, shining alongside Aurelien Tchouameni in the middle of the park as France welcomed the Cote d'Ivoire to Marseille for a friendly clash.

Les Bleus eventually emerged on the right side of a 2-1 scoreline, owing to strikes on the part of Olivier Giroud and, at the death, the aforementioned Tchouameni:

Next up for Deschamps and co. comes another friendly outing on Tuesday night, when they will play host to South Africa to round out the country's international commitments for March.

As things stand, it remains unclear whether Pogba will be risked for the Stade Pierre-Mauroy clash.
