Why Mykhailo Mudryk was hooked at half-time in Chelsea’s meeting with Fulham

An explanation for the early withdrawal of Chelsea star Mykhailo Mudryk during the club’s meeting with Fulham has been provided late on Friday evening.

The subject of Mudryk’s short-lived full Blues debut has of course taken its place front and centre in the post-match chatter tonight.

This comes after Graham Potter sprung a major surprise in hauling the January arrival at Stamford Bridge off with just 45 minutes on the clock, en route to a frustrating goalless stalemate against capital rivals Fulham.

Mudryk, in truth, had struggled to make much of an impact on proceedings, but, having been afforded little of the ball over the course of the first-half, his substitution seemed a tad premature.

Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle in west London, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his talented wide-man’s full debut was put to boss Potter.

And the under-fire Englishman went on to reveal that, in fact, his decision to haul Mudryk off did not come solely as a result of the 22-year-old’s underwhelming display.

Instead, Potter confirmed that the recent addition to his squad is currently suffering the effects of a head cold:
