Akanji joined Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund on deadline day last week.
The centre-back had hardly trained with his new side, in part due to his partner giving birth recently.
But with Manchester City suffering a number of issues at centre-back already this term, the Swiss international was thrown in at the depend vs Sevilla on Tuesday.
Akanji started alongside Ruben Dias as Manchester City ran out 4-0 winners in what was a very comfortable match for the Sky Blues.
And now, Akanji has revealed what Erling Haaland, a former BVB player, told him before he signed for Man City.
Speaking to BT Sport during his post-match interview, Akanji said: “I enjoyed it a lot. It was my first game and they [my teammates] made it really easy for me. It was an intense away game, but I’m really happy that we kept a clean sheet and got three points.
“Erling texted me before I signed and when Manchester City calls you, you don’t have to think twice. He spoke and he only told me good things about this club.”
Pep Guardiola was also full of praise for Akanji on Tuesday evening: “He trained one day and a half with us but he showed what experience he has at Dortmund and what a good central defender Manchester City brought to us.
“He has quality similar like Aymeric - he can break the lines with the pass. He reads really well the spaces.”
