Watch: Man United’s Christian Eriksen departs Old Trafford on crutches

A piece of footage no doubt in line to set alarm bells ringing on the red half of Manchester has come to the fore late on Saturday evening.

Erik ten Hag’s United, of course, were back in action a short time ago.

Fresh off placing one foot in the finale of the Carabao Cup in midweek, the Red Devils turned attentions towards matters in the FA Cup, on this occasion facing off with Championship outfit Reading for a spot in the competition’s fifth round.

And, when all was said and done, keep hopes of a cup double alive is precisely what United went on to do.

This came as a surprise Casemiro brace was added to by substitute Fred, en route to an eventual 3-1 result.

As alluded to above, however, an otherwise fine evening’s work for Ten Hag’s side on Saturday was soured considerably by what could prove to be a costly blow on the personnel front.

Early in the 2nd-half of action at Old Trafford, United’s boss was forced into a midfield change, when a dangerous challenge on the part of Andy Carroll left Christian Eriksen grounded and in evident pain.

The Dane, in turn, was hauled off to be replaced by Fred, with those of a Red Devils persuasion having since faced an anxious wait for an update on his wellbeing.

And now, precisely that has been forthcoming online.

The news, however, looks far from encouraging.

As showcased in the footage below, Eriksen was spotted departing the stadium this evening on crutches, with his left leg strapped in a protective boot:

It now remains to be seen whether the former Tottenham and Inter Milan star faces any sort of extended spell out of action.
