An altogether bizarre story has come to the fore in Turkey this evening, centering on Galatasaray star Marcao.
Diagne amongst the goals
Fatih Terim’s men were back in action a short time ago.
The capital heavyweights made the trip to Giresunspor, for their 2021/22 Super Lig opener.
And a positive start to the campaign, in turn, was forthcoming for Gala, who ultimately went on to emerge on the right side of a deserved 2-0 final scoreline.
Former West Bromwich Albion striker Mbaye Diagne opened the evening’s scoring, slotting home just beyond the half-hour mark.

And the visitors’ victory was secured on the stroke of the interval, when Alexandru Cicâldău tucked home confidently from the penalty spot.
Marcao loses it
As outlined above, however, whilst they eventually came away with all three points at the Çotanak Arena, Galatasaray’s opening day win was marred by an alarming incident involving two of the club’s stars.
The coming together was forthcoming a little over 25 minutes from time, when defender Marcao made a beeline for Kerem Akturkoglu, evidently livid with his teammate.
It is not clear what sparked the fury on the former’s part, though Akturkoglu could be seen shushing Marcao as he approached.
His attempts to calm the Brazilian ultimately proved to be in vain, however, as, incredibly, Marcao went on to not only headbutt his former Gala star, but then swing a pair of punches in his direction, too.
The ridiculous scene left referee Erkan Ozdamar with no option but to send Marcao for an early bath, with a hefty ban, at the very least, now likely to be in store.
