Footage of Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate showing off an oft-underappreciated element of his game in training has come to the fore on Thursday evening.

The clip in question showcases Konate in the midst of a training drill, which pits players in one-on-one situations, attacker versus defender.

The summer arrival at Anfield, though, was not, as would of course generally be the case, on the defensive side of the ball. Instead, Konate was afforded the chance to unveil his finest footwork, in a showdown with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

And take advantage of his opportunity is precisely what the talented Frenchman went on to do.

After first stepping over the ball, Konate left Oxlade-Chamberlain for dead with a piece of individual brilliance, taking the ball inside with his right foot, before guiding it through the legs of his Reds teammate in one swift motion.

Not only that, but the defender went on to convert, too, skipping beyond the advancing goalkeeper to slot home in style.

Konate, of course, will be hopeful of featuring from the off this weekend, when Liverpool mark their post-international break return to action in a Premier League meeting with Watford.

Jurgen Klopp's troops head into the Anfield clash on the back of a stellar spell of form prior to the latest round of international fixtures, having rattled off a head-turning 15 wins from the club's last 16 outings across all competitions.

Such efforts have seen the Reds reestablish themselves in the thick of the race for the English top-flight title, now sitting just a solitary point off champions Manchester City at the division's summit.

Not only that, but, should Liverpool, as expected, emerge with all three points once more on Saturday afternoon, then they will at least temporarily leapfrog City to top spot, with Pep Guardiola and co. not set to return to action until later in the day.
