‘Up to the player’: The latest on contract talks for Arsenal hero who is in danger of leaving for free

The Gunners could be set to lose a star on the cheap

Arsenal and young starlet Reiss Nelson remain locked in talks over a new contract after the Englishman has turned down two new deals previously, with the Gunners keen to keep the winger, it has emerged.

Nelson has largely been used as a substitute this campaign, but has continued to impress despite limited opportunities and scored a vital last gasp goal against Bournemouth that, had Arsenal won the Premier League, would have written him into folklore.

His 10 Premier League appearances this season have yielded 3 goals and 2 assists, but he has only totalled 171 minutes on the pitch, playing more than half an hour only once (against Nottingham Forest where he scored twice).

And he could yet depart the club for nothing, with the 23-year-old out of contract at the end of the season as it stands and attracting plenty of attention from clubs across Europe.

The Gunners are still trying to keep him, but seem to be fighting a losing battle with two contract offers having been rejected already.

Now, however, they have returned with a third. As outlined by Fabrizio Romano, they are ready to offer the Englishman a four-year deal which also includes an option for a fifth year, which could keep Nelson in north London until 2028 were it to be activated.

More comfortable on the left flank than the right, he currently has both Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli ahead of him in the Arsenal pecking order, while rumours suggest that the Gunners are looking for further firepower this summer for the opposite flank, which could yet further limit his opportunities at his boyhood club.
