West Ham ready to take advantage of Jesse Lingard’s Man United contract impasse

West Ham ready to take advantage of Jesse Lingard’s Man United contract impasse

Word stemming from the English media on Thursday suggests that West Ham United could launch a fresh swoop for Jesse Lingard following the turn of the year.

Hammers standout

The name of English international Lingard of course took centre stage in the media chatter throughout the recently closed window.

This came with the 28-year-old fresh off the back of something of a career revival over the 2nd half of last season.

After again struggling for game-time over the opening half of the campaign at Old Trafford, Lingard was farmed out on loan to West Ham, with whom he went on to exceed all expectations.

Having been handed the freedom of the Hammers’ ranks in the middle of the park to operate, the creative midfielder quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s standout performers.

All told, he racked up nine goals and four assists across 16 appearances in the colours of West Ham, the kind of form which culminated in a Player and Goal of the Month double back in April:

January swoop?

Such stellar exploits, in turn, led to inevitable chatter that Lingard could go on to seal a swift return to the London Stadium, on the back of his loan stint coming to an end back in June.

When all was said and done, however, despite rampant speculation, such a move failed to come to fruition.

Instead, West Ham opted to bring in gifted Croatian international Nikola Vlasic from CSKA Moscow, in a deadline day deal:

But, as outlined above, if the latest word in the media is anything to go by, then the Hammers’ Lingard hopes do not appear to be dead in the water just yet.

As per a report from Football Insider, David Moyes remains altogether keen on the midfielder’s return.

The board in the capital, in turn, are said to be readying a potential January swoop:

A West Ham source has told Football Insider that Lingard, 28, remains in David Moyes’ sights and a winter window deal is considered a possibility.

The fresh opportunity on the part of Moyes and co. comes with Lingard understood to have rejected a new contract at Old Trafford, amid ongoing concerns over playing time.

Significantly, however, it is also noted that, with talks lined up between the 28-year-old and West Ham, the latter are fully aware that ‘there will be hurdles to overcome, including the player’s reluctance to move down south.’
