West Ham prepping bid for €40m-rated Declan Rice replacement

Premier League outfit West Ham United are ready to make swift use of the mammoth fee secured from Arsenal for Declan Rice, according to reports.

The subject of departures, of course, has taken its place front and centre in the headlines at the London Stadium across the last 24 hours.

This comes after star midfielder Rice’s record-breaking Arsenal switch was finally made official, for a sum understood to come in around the £105 million mark.

With a hefty cash injection in the bag, however, attentions at West Ham will now quickly turn towards securing reinforcements.

The Irons are expected to seek out a minimum of two new midfielders over the coming weeks, amid links with a whole host of high-profile names from across the continent.

And, as alluded to above, on Sunday evening, an update on the situation has been provided.

The info comes courtesy of reliable Dutch journalist Mike Verweij, who has confirmed that the powers that be in east London are readying a swoop for Ajax star Edson Alvarez.

Mexican standout Alvarez is fresh off another solid season in Amsterdam, which saw the 25-year-old continue to impress from his deep-lying midfield berth, despite Ajax’s collective struggles.

In turn, the 67-time capped international, who saw a move to Germany with Borussia Dortmund break down earlier in the summer, has been identified as a leading target to replace Declan Rice at West Ham.

The Hammers hierarchy, according to Verweij, are therefore preparing an offer ‘close’ to the €40 million being demanded by their counterparts at Ajax for Alvarez’s signature.
