A fresh insight into Manchester United's ongoing interest in landing Darwin Nunez from Benfica has, on Sunday, been forthcoming online.

Hitman Nunez has of course seen his name take centre stage in the headlines over the course of the last couple of months.

This comes with the Uruguayan understood to have been added to the wishlists of a number of Europe's biggest clubs, owing to a head-turning haul of 34 goals across all competitions this season.

Manchester United, for their part, are one such club said to be expressing a keen interest in Nunez, amid a dearth of centre-forward options beyond Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of the new campaign.

In turn, excitement no doubt began to spread across the Red Devils' fanbase when, earlier today, reports stemming from Portugal went as far as to suggest that the Premier League giants were on the verge of closing a deal for the 22-year-old.

And now, as alluded to above, a fresh insight into the situation has been provided.

The info comes courtesy of journalist Jacque Talbot of The Times, The Guardian and more, who has assured that, in fact, 'no deal is extremely close' between the respective boards in Lisbon and Manchester.

Significantly, though, it is also added that, as things stand, 'there is a feeling' that Old Trafford has emerged as Nunez's most realistic summer landing spot.
