Official: Funds boost for Chelsea as Victor Moses’ exit finally confirmed

Russian giants Spartak Moscow have, on Friday, confirmed the permanent signing of Victor Moses from Chelsea.

Pensioners spell

Versatile wing-back Moses had been on the books at Stamford Bridge since all the way back in 2012.

The vast majority of his stint with the club, however, was spent in loan spells away from west London.

Moses’ most fruitful stretch in blue of course came under the watch of Antonio Conte, with the Nigerian having starred as the right-hand option in the Italian’s innovative back-5, en route to Premier League glory in the 2016-17 campaign.

Upon Conte’s departure, however, Moses quickly fell back down the Chelsea pecking order.

In turn, another series of loan spells away from the Premier League ensued, with the ex-Wigan man having gone on to line out for all of Fenerbahce, Inter Milan and, most recently, Spartak Moscow.

Russia switch

The latter of these stints, meanwhile, proved altogether successful.

Moses linked up with Spartak last October, for his first taste of Russian football.

And, despite some injury concerns, he subsequently went on to impress, bagging four goals and two assists across appearances in 19 of the club’s 30 league outings:

Spartak, for their part, finished 2nd in the 2020/21 Russian Premier League table, eight points adrift of champions Zenit St. Petersburg.

And, as outlined above, the coming season, one in which the capital giants will no doubt be keen to wrestle back the domestic title for the first time since 2017, will see Spartak again able to call on the talents of the aforementioned Moses.

Taking to social media on Friday afternoon, the Russian heavyweights confirmed that their on-loan wide-man’s arrival has today been made a permanent one:

Chelsea have also announced the news, wishing Moses luck on his latest adventure:

Though no official word has been forthcoming regarding the fee involved, previous reports suggested that Spartak were set to splash out around €4.5 million on Moses’ signature.
